The University of Science and Technology was originally founded in 1992 as the National College of Science and Technology. Two years later it was renamed the University of Science and Technology and became Yemen¡¯s first private university.
The university¡¯s main campus is now located in Aden, after relocating from Sana¡¯a in 2020, and operates additional branches across the country, including Taiz, Hadhramout, and a women-only branch in the capital. Aden, a port city on the southern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, is a key commercial hub, historically known for its maritime trade and strategic location along the Gulf of Aden.
Academically, the university comprises of three faculties: Faculty of Health and Medicine Sciences, Faculty of Computing and Engineering, and the Faculty of Humanities and Administrative Sciences. Within these faculties are different departments offering a range of bachelor¡¯s, master¡¯s, and doctoral degree programmes.
The university is also home to the International Language Centre, University Book Centre, Talent Development Centre, Medical Training Centre, and the GIS Centre for Training and Development.
Notable alumni of the university include Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman and Somalia¡¯s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.
