Founded by Professor Dr. Ali Muhealdin in 2008, the University of Human Development is a non-profit national university situated in Kurdistan. The university is under the supervision of Kurdistan's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. 
The University of Human Development is a coeducational higher education institution and offers pre-bachelor degrees (certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees and doctorate degrees in several areas of study. 
It is located in the large city of Sulaymaniyah (also known as Slemani) in Kurdistan, which has a population of 800,000 people. It is in Eastern Kurdistan, close to the Iran-Iraq border. The Azmer mountain range, Goyija Range and the Qaiwan Mountain Range in the northeast are all near the University of Human Development, as are the Baranan Mountain in the south and the Tasluja hills in the west. Slemani has very hot dry summers and cool wet winters.

For this faculty position, we are looking for candidates with an?engineering?background, who have extensive experience in the area of?sustainability.

Essential


	Academic and/or industrial experience in enhancing environmental sustainability through engineering solutioning and/or sustainability management
	Having a background and interest in one or more fields of engineering, including but not limited to mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, building, and environmental engineering
	Experience and knowledgeable in one or more areas of sustainability measurement and management, such as carbon accounting, life cycle analysis, and sustainability reporting
	Motivated to develop and to teach curriculum related to sustainability
	Strong demonstration of interest to develop sustainability and/or engineering solutions through applied research projects


Desirable


	Good knowledge in sustainability-related technologies such as carbon capture, utilization and storage
	Hands on experience in commercial engineering project with sustainability goals
	Experience in engineering related projects with strong integration of the three pillars of sustainability
	Preferred to having a PhD in a related technical area
	Led or involved in strong industry - academia partnership projects

The scholarship may be awarded to applicants who

	have completed a Bachelor’s degree or a Master’s programme and/or have worked for some years; or?
	are currently enrolled in a PhD programme overseas


Upon successful completion of the PhD programme, the scholar will be considered to join SIT’s faculty as an Assistant Professor.

As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.?

The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be part of the research team to lead the storm surge modelling in the Singapore Sea.? As a specialist in wave modelling software, the successful candidate will work on cutting-edge projects related to coastal and ocean wave modelling using Delt3D software. The role of the researcher is to perform physics-based modeling to build a numerical model that can predict storm surges in Singapore coastlines based on different weather conditions. The researcher will also work with team members within the consortium in generating necessary data required for developing a machine learning model for storm surge prediction.

Key Responsibilities


	Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.
	Undertake these responsibilities in the project:
	i.?Delft3D and SWAN Modelling: Utilize Delft3D and SWAN software to develop and validate numerical models for wave propagation, storm surge modelling, and coastal dynamics.
	ii.?Building up of a database of sea level anomaly with extreme weather conditions: Utilize the developed numerical model to build a database of sea level anomaly with different weather conditions, which can be used to develop a data-driven model for storm surge prediction.
	iii.?Data Analysis: Process and analyze climate, ocean wave and coastal data to improve model accuracy.
	iv.?Research: Conduct research to enhance wave modelling techniques and contribute to the advancement of coastal engineering and oceanography.
	v.?Impact Assessment: Evaluating the potential impacts of storm surges on coastal regions, including flood risk assessments and vulnerability analyses.
	vi.?Collaboration: Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including hydrodynamic researchers, coastal engineers, and oceanographers.
	Reporting: Prepare research findings for publication in scientific journals and present results at conferences. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
	Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers.
	Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
	Assists in co-supervision of Final Year Projects (FYP) or capstone projects students together with the project PI


Requirements


	PhD or Master degree in a related field with a focus on coastal engineering, oceanography, or hydrodynamics.
	Proficiency in wave modeling software, particularly Delft3D and SWAN.
	Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
	Research experience in coastal and ocean waves is preferred.
	Excellent communication (verbal and written) and teamwork abilities
	Proficiency in machine learning will be an advantage

The Public Health Research Center (PHRC) at New York University Abu Dhabi is seeking a Research Assistant Bioinformatician with experience in population genetics and machine learning to join its team. The ideal candidate will have experience in bioinformatics, whole-genome sequencing data analysis and predictive modelling. The role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary research environment alongside epidemiologists, geneticists and computational biologists. The PHRC is focused on understanding the factors influencing health outcomes and traits related to the most common non-communicable diseases in the UAE. This is achieved by investigating and integrating diverse data sources, including epidemiological, clinical, genetic, and multi-omic data. The successful candidate will benefit from the support of established Core Bioinformatics and Sequencing Platforms and High-Performance Computing facilities.

Applicants must have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computational Biology. Excellent experimental and in silico skills relevant to the project (in particular genomics and bioinformatics), and strong programming skills (e.g., Python, R, Bash, Java, C++), are also required.
