Tiradentes University is the oldest private university in Sergipe, Brazil¡¯s smallest state by population.
It was formed as Colegio Tiradentes in 1962 and attained university status 32 years later.
As well as five Sergipe campuses, the largest at Farolandia, it has out-of-state operations in Maceio (Alagoas state) and Recife (Pernambuco) and, since 2017, has run the Tiradentes Institute in partnership with the University of Massachusetts in Boston.
There are faculties of humanities and social science, which offers 15 disciplines, exact science and engineering (also 15) and health and biological science (three).
Applicants for the medical school are admitted through a separate entrance examination.
