Sinop University was established in 2007 as a public institution committed to delivering high quality education, innovative research, and inclusive academic opportunities for students in northern Turkey and beyond. 

The university is situated in Sinop, a historic port city on the northern coast of Turkey, known as one of the oldest settlements in Anatolia with a rich history that dates back to ancient Greece. 

The university is organised into 10 faculties across the fields of economics and administrative sciences, education, arts and sciences, fine arts and design, theology, engineering and architecture, health sciences, sport sciences, water resources and tourism. There are also two high schools: the School of Applied Sciences and the School of Foreign Languages, as well as the Institute of Graduate Studies. 

The university is also home to a number of vocational schools including Ayancik Vocational School, Boyabat Vocational School, Duragan Vocational School, and the Vocational School of Health Sciences. 

Throughout the academic year, research is carried out at its various research centres such as the Energy Applications and Research Centre and the Centre for Application and Research of Underwater Archaeology.
