National Institute of Technology Meghalaya was established in 2010 under the NIT Act 2007 (amended 2012) and is recognised as an Institute of National Importance. It is fully funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and is located in Sohra (Cherrapunjee), East Khasi Hills district, Meghalaya.
The institute offers bachelor of technology degrees in computer science and engineering, electronics and communication engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and civil engineering.
Admission is based on national entrance exams and counselling.
Postgraduate programmes include master of technology degrees in civil, computer science, electronics and communication, electrical and mechanical engineering. Master of science courses are available in physics, chemistry and mathematics. Doctoral research programmes cover science, engineering and interdisciplinary fields.
NIT Meghalaya’s permanent campus includes academic buildings, student hostels, faculty residences, an e-library, research laboratories and sporting and cultural facilities. The institute has international partnerships with universities in Europe and Asia, supporting student exchanges, internships and research events.
