Koya University

Koya University is based in the town of Koysanjaq in the Erbil province of Iraq.
The university can trace its roots to the colleges of education and Sharia law which were affiliated to Sulaymaniyah University in 2001. Within two years it was awarded university status and taken their current name.
A reorganisation in 2010 shifted from colleges to faculties and there are currently four – engineering, science and health, humanities and social sciences, and education, plus the medical school and a school of physical education. 
The university is based on a 200-acre campus. Nearly four-fifths of students live on campus, with new students required to live there. Shared rooms make up most of the accommodation in five residences – two male and three female. 
The medical school, formed in 2014 has access to Koya University Hospital, which include the Centre for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support which has operated since 2017.

About the Role

Join an exciting new initiative at RMIT University as the ARC Training Centre Manager for the ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre in Electrifying Australia for a Net-zero Future; a major ARC-funded research centre set to launch in Q3 2025. This five-year grant will drive national and international leadership in decarbonisation through electrification. In this key role, you will work closely with the Centre Director to deliver high-quality business management, governance, and administrative support, ensuring the effective delivery of the Centre's strategic and operational objectives.

As Centre Manager, you will:


	Liaise with industry, University stakeholders and the RMIT Research Office to manage research agreements, project planning, and compliance.
	Oversee financial operations, budget monitoring, reporting, and business process improvements.
	Support strategic positioning of the Centre through the development and maintenance of strong stakeholder relationships.

To be successful for this position, you will have:


	Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegiately with a broad cross-section of professionals to achieve significant outcomes including academics, industry, technologists and administration functions such as contract and finance department from university, industry and government organisations.
	Evidence of well-developed oral and written communication skills including the ability to manage web sites and use of social media to publicise research activities.
	Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate, liaise and work with people at all levels, both internal and external to the University with tact, maturity and appreciation of sensitive issues.

Qualifications: A postgraduate degree, or equivalent qualifications and/or extensive relevant experience in a similar role in a large and complex organisation.

The Centre of Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science is comprised of 15 groups that conduct internationally leading research in the field of microbial ecology and environmental systems science. The Centre's Department of Microbiology and Ecosystem Science assembles an international, ambitious and committed team and offers an interdisciplinary scientific environment, cutting-edge laboratories and a creative working atmosphere.?

The Doctoral School in Microbiology and Environmental Science at the Centre supports PhD students in the finishing phase of their dissertation project through short-term finishing contracts. These employments are provided to students who have signed a doctoral thesis agreement and have already made significant progress in their doctoral thesis project.?Positions have a limited duration with an option for extension.

One 3-month position is available for students of the Doctoral School in Microbiology and Environmental Science through this job announcement.

Your future tasks

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration in the context of your doctoral thesis project, which means:


	Involvement in and finalizing of a research project as detailed in your doctoral thesis agreement
	Publications and presentations
	Involvement in project applications for third-party funding
	Teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
	Supervision of trainees and students
	Meeting and consulting with your supervisor(s) on a regular basis in order to prioritize your tasks and get the necessary support to complete your dissertation successfully in time.
	Actively seeking support (workshops, training, coaching etc.) if necessary

Prof. Yi Fang at the Center for Interacting Urban Networks, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a research assistant to support a project studying AI-powered smart assistive technologies for inclusive and accessible urban mobility.

The successful applicant will contribute to an interdisciplinary effort aimed at enhancing public safety and inclusivity in modern cities. In this role, the researcher will focus on the design, development, and field evaluation of AI-embedded systems to assist blind and low-vision individuals in navigating both outdoor and indoor urban spaces. The project's initial phase will employ machine learning models, computer vision algorithms, and real-time sensory integration to prototype tools such as SafeCross for safe street crossing and EasyPath for indoor navigation in malls, hospitals, and public institutions. This work will then generate insights into how urban infrastructures can be enhanced through technology to serve vulnerable populations. The position has many opportunities for multidisciplinary collaborations with other researchers at CITIES and beyond. Additionally, the position comes with the flexibility to independently develop research ideas related to the broader mission of inclusive urban design and human-centered AI.

The qualified candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., computer science, engineering) with experience working on machine learning and/or robotics projects. This position requires excellent computational and data management skills and a knowledge of programming frameworks such as Python, PyTorch, or TensorFlow. Furthermore, an interest in accessibility, assistive technology, or smart cities is highly desirable.

The Lead of Imaging and Characterization Platforms at UM6P Corelabs will be responsible for overseeing and advancing the capabilities, technical operations, and service offerings of the division. This role requires a highly skilled and experienced leader with expertise in advanced imaging and characterization techniques, laboratory management, and fostering collaborations with academia and industry. The Lead Manager will supervise a team of scientists and technical staff, ensuring operational excellence while promoting a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Additionally, the incumbent will play a strategic role in positioning the Imaging and Characterization Platforms as a cornerstone of the Corelabs’ center of excellence in scientific research and industrial applications.

Key Responsibilities


	Scientific & Technical Leadership

	
		Oversee and develop innovative characterization techniques to meet the needs of researchers and industrial partners.
		Ensure the continuous improvement of characterization workflows and the adoption of emerging technologies.
		Provide expert guidance on experimental design, method development, and data interpretation for imaging and characterization projects.
		Drive projects in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, fostering innovation.
		Lead and guide the set-up of an advanced microscopic imaging platform (SEM, TEM, AFM) to offer state-of-the-art high-resolution imaging capabilities.
	
	
	Operational & Laboratory Management 
	
		Lead the daily operations of the Imaging and Characterization Platforms, ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.
		Manage and optimize the use of advanced imaging and characterization instrumentation, such as electron microscopy (SEM, TEM), X-ray platforms (XRD, XRM, XRF and SC-XRD), and other specialized techniques.
		Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, quality assurance protocols, and safety standards.
		Supervise the calibration, validation, and maintenance of imaging equipment to ensure reliability and precision.
	
	
	Financial Sustainability and Business Development
	
		Ensure the financial sustainability and autonomy of the imaging platforms through strategic planning and cost-efficiency.
		Implement a business development strategy to increase platform visibility and utilization rates among both internal and external clients.
		Contribute to the development of new service lines, consulting activities, and contract research opportunities that leverage the expertise of the imaging platforms.
		Identify and develop spin-off projects or start-up ideas emerging from platform expertise, aligning with UM6P’s innovation and entrepreneurship goals.
		Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial indicators to assess the performance and growth potential of the imaging platforms.

		Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment that supports the success of the imaging and characterization platforms.

Qualifications & Experience


	PhD in Physics, Materials Science, or a related field with a focus on characterization techniques.
	Minimum of 8–10 years of experience, with a strong track record in method development and instrumentation related to imaging and characterization technologies.
	Demonstrated expertise in advanced characterization techniques such as electron microscopy, X-rays, and other specialized characterization modalities.
	Experience in laboratory management, laboratory quality control, and compliance with international standards relevant to imaging and characterization platforms.
	Strong leadership skills with proven experience in mentoring teams of technical staff in imaging and characterization environments.
	Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with a proven ability to engage with academia and industry partners.
	A track record in scientific publications, patenting, or technology transfer is an asset.
