You will be directly involved with the UNIFORM (UNIfying Grid-FOllowing And Grid-foRMing Control In Inverter-based Resources) project, a collaborative programme with four academic and industrial partners that aspire to develop the next generation of inverter control. It is essential to have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications in Electrical/Power Systems, and especially in the areas of power system dynamics, stability and grid-forming control. Proficiency with relevant software, such as MATLAB/Simulink, is essential. Experience with hardware in the loop (HIL) setups and tests is desirable.

This highly collaborative project will involve multiple research visits to academic partners within the UK and abroad up to 30 consecutive days and up to 90 days per annum for joint research and knowledge exchange, as well as travel to conference and other venues for dissemination activities.

Your personal sphere of influence The research group?“Atmospheric Transport Processes”, led by Prof. Andreas Stohl, is part of the?Department of Meteorology and Geophysics. The group develops the Lagrangian transport model FLEXPART and studies all aspects of transport in the atmosphere, ranging from greenhouse gases to pollutants, water vapour and heat, and uses inverse modelling techniques to determine sources of greenhouse gases, air pollutants and radionuclides.

We seek a highly motivated candidate to pursue his/her doctoral thesis within the research fields covered by our research group. These could be, for instance, theoretical and numerical improvements of FLEXPART, development of new application fields for the model, or applications of the model in existing application fields such as transport of heat and/or water in the atmosphere during extreme meteorological events; climatological analyses of air/heat/water transport using an existing Lagrangian re-analysis; development of a new Lagrangian re-analysis based on the forthcoming ERA6 reanalysis; inverse modelling of greenhouse gases, radionuclides or air pollutants in the atmosphere. We will select the best qualified candidate and will define the exact topic of the doctoral thesis together with him/her.

The employment duration is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to?4 years?if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration. The position is available from?June 2025, but a later starting time can be negotiated.?The review of applications will begin on 25 May 2025 but the search will continue until the decision is made.

Your future tasks:

Active participation in research and teaching, which means you will:


	Contribute to the further development of the Lagrangian transport model FLEXPART;
	Use?FLEXPART, you will conduct research in the topical field of the doctoral thesis;
	Teach within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement;
	Publish your scientific results in peer-reviewed journals;
	Strengthen the collaborative culture of our team and the Department;
	Become an active member of the Vienna International School of Earth and Space Sciences (VISESS / doctoral school).


You will require:


	Completed master or diploma in the atmospheric sciences (e.g., meteorology, climatology), or a related field;
	Programming and data analysis experience;
	A good team spirit and willingness to collaborate;
	Strong English communication skills.


These skills would be an advantage:


	Experience with Lagrangian transport models;
	Expert knowledge of programming, preferably in Python and/or Fortran.

About the position

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences seeks to appoint an outstanding academic to a continuing full-time position as either Lecturer (Level B) or Senior Lecturer (Level C) in Gender, Sexuality, and Diversity Studies. This role encompasses Teaching, Research and Academic service.

The successful incumbent will be required to contribute to excellence in teaching and learning across several subjects in our Gender, Sexuality, and Diversity Studies major, which is part of the Bachelor of Arts at La Trobe University. You will work collaboratively to develop and renew the curriculum. You will be expected to contribute to excellence in research, through publications and effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degree Research students.

The successful applicant will pursue an active scholarly research agenda that aligns with La Trobe University’s Research Strategy and helps the School to develop new relationships with government organisations, community groups and industry partners, both nationally and internationally. The School encourages applicants from all areas of GSDS or cognate disciplines to apply. Duties at this level will include:

Skills and knowledge required for the position:


	A PhD with specialisation in Gender, Sexuality and Diversity Studies, or cognate disciplines.
	Demonstrated knowledge of theories relevant to teaching subjects in Gender, Sexuality and Diversity Studies.
	Demonstrated capacity for excellence in research in an area of immediate and direct relevance to Gender, Sexuality and Diversity Studies, with a preference for research demonstrating expertise in critical, intersectional, and feminist perspectives in one or more of the following areas: postcolonial or decolonial studies; trans and queer theory; or critical disability studies.

Requirements

The appointee will teach undergraduate philosophy courses, supervise undergraduate final projects, and contribute to the service and development of the Department.

Teaching: The appointee will have a standard teaching load of ten courses per year (30 hours per year), distributed according to the needs of the Department and upon mutual agreement. English will be the language of instruction. If necessary, the appointee might be required to supervise students’ capstone projects.

Service: The appointee will perform administrative duties as assigned by the Head of the Department, if any.
