A professor has given a lecture at the first public reading of a play he recently identified as a long-lost work by William Shakespeare. Brean Hammond, from the University of Nottingham's School of English Studies, identified the 18th-century play Double Falsehood by Lewis Theobald as a reworking of Cardenio - a 1613 collaboration between Shakespeare and fellow dramatist John Fletcher. The play was republished in May and its first public reading took place last week at the Nottingham Playhouse, directed by the Royal Shakespeare Company's Michael Fentiman. It was preceded by Professor Hammond's lecture.
