State intake falls despite Oxford exam demise

ABOLISHING its entrance exam has not helped Oxford University increase its intake of state school pupils. The proportion of state students offered places this year, the first year chosen solely on A-level predictions, fell to 43 per cent from 43.6 per cent last year.
