Wolverhampton Students' Union has carried out a survey of new students to find out the possible effects of tuition fees and loss of the maintenance grant.
Of the 1,557 students who responded, 64 per cent said they would not have started a degree course if they had had to pay up to Pounds 1,000 in fees.
But 60 per cent also claimed they would not have started their course without the maintenance grant. The union executive has agreed to fight total abolition of the grant.
