The widow of the late Professor Sir Roland Smith, Lady Joan Smith, has donated ?500,000 to Lancaster University to fund a chair in strategic management.

Sir Roland, who died in 2003, was the first marketing professor in the UK, and former chairman of Manchester United plc.
