France tops list of universities founded since the year 2000

France is home to the world’s top two universities founded in the 21st century, according to the latest ̽��Ƶ data.

Paris Sciences et Lettres – PSL Research University Paris, which was founded in 2010 after a merger of nine institutions, is number one for the second consecutive year in a THE list of the top “millennial” universities – institutions founded since the year 2000. As well as achieving the top overall score, PSL receives the highest scores for teaching environment and research environment among its peers.

Sorbonne University, which was established by a merger of Paris-Sorbonne University, Pierre and Marie Curie University and other smaller institutions in 2018, is now second in the table.

France is also the most-represented country in the list with 14 institutions, up from nine last year, followed by India with nine.

The table, which was compiled for the third time this year, is a subset of the THE Young University Rankings, which lists the best universities that are 50 years old or younger.

The rest of the top five is completed by Germany’s University of Duisburg-Essen in third (up from fourth), the University of Luxembourg in fourth (down from second), and Finland’s Aalto University, which remains in fifth.

Overall, 64 universities from 29 countries/regions feature in the list.

The THE Young University Rankings are based on the same 13 performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings, but the weightings have been adjusted to give less weight to reputation.
