More than a quarter of part-timers responding to the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey, published on 4 September, say they do not have frequent opportunities to discuss their research with peers.

This compares with 16 per cent among full-time students.

Part-timers are also less likely to feel that their faculty’s “research ambience” stimulates their work or that their department provides a good seminar programme.

The results could reflect that such students are more likely to be distance learners and less likely to spend time in their departments, the report says.
