David Lammy, MP for Tottenham and the UK鈥檚 minister for innovation, universities and science from 2007 to 2010, has called for a centralised admissions system at elite institutions like Oxford and Cambridge in order to admit greater numbers of black and ethnic minority students.
In an interview with聽探花视频 editor John Gill at聽the recent聽探花视频 Teaching Excellence Summit, Mr Lammy also said that聽although universities 鈥渨ill take some flak鈥 for being forums of free speech, he doesn't 鈥渟ee them as in the pockets of liberal progressives鈥. And in 鈥渢he age of populism鈥 Mr Lammy called on academics聽to "stand brave and tall and communicate quite strongly the dangers that could lie ahead for the global world".聽
